WHY DO I TEACH?
What we are passionate about in life points the way to our life purpose.
Over the years we accumulate knowledge and information, things that can be gifted back to the world.
I know for me that my passion is art making. It always has been and always will be. It is a magical activity that gives me real joy and takes me into a different realm of being where time flies and I feel very much at peace. Creativity is a natural human activity and for me, it just feels so good.
Research has shown that making art is healing, pleasurable and a very beneficial activity.
If my passion is pointing me to my life’s purpose, then surely I should be using the art knowledge I have and giving back to the world in some way or form.
I love to teach and see people grow and learn new skills. I regularly do workshops for art groups in my city and beyond and get enormous satisfaction from planning and teaching them, plus it’s always a fun time too! The problem is that I can only reach local people this way and after having so many people contact me through my web site re collagraph classes and information I felt sure my knowledge could be of interest to people elsewhere.
This is one of the reasons that I originally decided to create an online Collagraph Printmaking course. What better way than online to share my knowledge with the world. This means the knowledge and joy that I feel could be available to many more people no matter where they live or who they are. It’s also a more private way for people who are shy about exposing themselves in a group, to get the information they want.
Any course I teach I want to make really helpful and worthwhile so I try and give and share everything I know. I’m constantly looking for more information to add to make them even better. They will always be a work in progress just like we are.
The Collagraph course has been very successful and it is wonderful to see the progress that students make once they have the right information. Using a private Facebook group enables everyone in each group to keep in touch, share and provide valuable feedback.
After seeing how well this works I am considering offering a couple of other online courses. One based on Colour and another on creating texture and pattern in non-objective painting.
We all have gifts to share with the world and I sincerely hope what I have to share will go out into the world and inspire the joy that creativity can bring.
