about susanne
In 1983 Susanne left NZ for the US, the first major move in what was to be a very nomadic life. After two years she was back in NZ briefly before crossing the Pacific again to live in Canada. Three years in Toronto were followed by eight in Ottawa and then her husband's work took her to the UK for five years and the US for two. Finally she is back in Toronto where she intends to stay.

While moving around the world she has been exposed to some wonderful people and experiences.  In Toronto in the early 90’s she trained with Regina Curak at Arscura which focused on art as a curative discipline.

At this time she was also introduced to the Investment In Excellence series developed by Lou Tice of the Pacific Institute in Seattle. After completing the course Susanne then facilitated Investment in Excellence workshops at HST a local Ottawa company and went on to incorporate both the ideas from her Arscura experience and Lou Tice into a series of courses using art for personal development.   Under the name of Art Insight she taught weekly classes and workshops in Ottawa for a period of nine years.

Three other people who have had a major influence on her are:

M Douglas Walton: an amazing artist and educator who regularly travels to Ontario to teach at the Creativity Center north of Toronto..
Peter Wray: painter and printmaker extraordinaire in the UK. Susanne spent many hours at the character filled old pub in York that he used as his studio, learning printmaking under his artistic eye amidst clouds of  his cigarette smoke.
Doug Wales: artist and educator who ran an inspiring and transformative art group that she attended two days a week during her time in the UK. His generosity of spirit, knowledge of art and enthusiasm for painting had a big impact on her.

Now that Susanne is in Toronto she has re-established her studio and begun to discover and take part in local art events.  She is continuing her musical series, which have met with much success, and working on developing new work.
